House Ag Panel Advances CFTC Reauthorization

Nov 01, 2019

The House Agriculture Committee approved legislation to reauthorize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

H.R. 4895 includes provisions authorizing the agency to improve requirements for clearinghouses, trading platforms and swap data repositories; clarifies provisions for relief in the event of a broker bankruptcy; strengthens the resiliency of financial market infrastructure; adds whistleblower protections for employees of organizations under CFTC jurisdiction; and improves research and oversight tools to explore emerging technologies.

It also features new protections for charitable organizations and church retirement plans so they will not be subjected to regulations designed for Wall Street institutions.
