Pro-Russia hackers planning attacks on financial targets: alert

Pro-Russia hackers are planning to conduct cyberattacks against Western financial targets, including Swift and the Federal Reserve, according to an alert from the U.S. government.

Alert: The alert on the announcement from the Anonymous Sudan, REvil, and KillNet groups is available to ICBA members on ICBA’s Cyber and Data Security resource center. The attackers announced the plans in a video that circulated on social media and called for active groups to engage in destructive activities against financial systems.

Previous Advisory: Also Thursday, several news outlets reported widespread cyberattacks against U.S. federal agencies, though the relationship of those attacks to the cyber threats is unclear. Federal agencies last week issued a joint advisory on the CL0P ransomware gang, which has reportedly exploited a vulnerability in Progress Software's MOVEit Transfer solution.

Outlook: ICBA will continue monitoring the situation, keeping community bankers informed, and providing additional resources on the Cyber and Data Security resource center.
