January 2020 - Online Training Newsletter

In the wake of #MeToo, a growing number of U.S. states are enacting their own harassment and discrimination prevention laws. California and New York are notable examples; both states have implemented reforms requiring mandatory employee and supervisor training with specific content and/or timing requirements.

Other states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, and Maine, have approved new legislation, but are still in the process of finalizing what training requirements will look like.

Most financial institutions, depending on the number of employees, are required to abide by these new laws which typically also include mandatory harassment and discrimination training.

Considering this, Community Banker University is working with our subject-matter experts to ensure our harassment courses comply with state requirements. The Online Course Catalog presently includes Employee Harassment Prevention and Supervisory Harassment Prevention training that is appropriate for all personnel as well as specific courses for California and New York.

As new rules and requirements take form we will develop new state-specific training as appropriate to ensure that your bank has the resources and training it needs.

As courses are updated and/or created we will notify you via this newsletter and you can also refer to the “What’s New” tab in the Online Training Center.

What's New

We’ve added four courses back into the Human Resources catalog that were previously removed in order to update them with the latest and greatest information. The descriptions of these courses can be found in the Course Catalog.

  • Compensation & Benefits Planning for Small Business
  • Family & Medical Leave Act
  • Succession Planning
  • Wage & Hour

We’ve also updated our Administrators Guide with more information in the technical requirements section regarding the use of Flash.

What's Coming

We've got a great year planned for the Online Training Course Catalog.

We will continue to:

  • Update our most popular courses with fresh new content.
  • Refine some of the longer courses into shorter, topic-specific courses or in-depth and overview courses.
  • Update courses as regulations change (Regulation CC—effective July 1; BA courses—dependent on Senate's ruling of beneficial ownership changes; Community Reinvestment Act—dependent on finalization of proposal from FDIC & OCC).

Plus, we'll be adding:

  • HSA & IRA courses.
  • SAFE Act courses.
  • A non-deposit investment product course and several others.

Did You Know?

Did you know that employees can reset their passwords to access the Online Training Center? They simply need to go to the ICBA website and click on Member Login in the upper right and then click on “Forgot your password?”. They will follow the steps on the screens and then an email will be sent to them from [email protected] with a link to reset their password.

Important Note: Remind employees to check their spam, junk mail, or email quarantine system if they do not receive the password reset email. Also, you should have your IT Department whitelist [email protected] so that future emails will pass through without issue.
