The Clock is Ticking on Compliance Training

Most community bank training programs follow the calendar year, so if you have not completed your annual regulatory training requirements, there are only four months left to do so. Specific regulations that require annual training for bank employees are:

  • Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) – all employees
  • Regulation CC – only employees affected by the requirements of this regulation (frontline, retail, operations, and possibly lending staff)
  • Bank Protection Act (physical bank security) – all employees
  • Fair Credit Reporting Act – only employees affected by the red flag requirements of this regulation (majority of employees minus human resources, accounting, IT, marketing)
  • Information Security – all employees

ICBA Community Banker University Online Training has all the courses you need to cover these requirements and so much more. There are nine new BSA courses available for administrators to choose from based on the employee’s role within the bank. There are two new Regulation CC courses for both those who require a general overview of the regulation and those who need a comprehensive review. There are nine new bank security courses that cover robbery and physical bank security. Our Red Flags Identity Theft Prevention Program addresses requirements of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Primer on Privacy covers information security guidelines.

Fair Lending, the SAFE Act and a few other topics are not listed above because by law these regulations do not specify annual training requirements. Training in these areas is not presently mandated, however when assessing a bank for compliance risk, examiners do scrutinize bank training programs to ensure that staff at all levels understand compliance risk issues and policies and procedures. For recommendations on courses based on job function, view the Mandatory and Recommended Course Listing in the Administration tab within the Online Training System.

Did You Know?

On Aug. 3, ICBA initiated a system upgrade. As a result, there are now two ways a new employee/user can be added to the Online Training Center system. Now a new learner can set up his or her account or a designated employee at your bank can set up an account for another employee. Please refer to pages 12 and 13 of the Administrator's Guide for updated information.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments regarding the great improvements we are making, please contact a Community Banker University team member at 800-422-7285 or [email protected].
