The House Financial Services Committee this week voted to advance bills that would reform the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and coordinate efforts to fight payment scams.
Details: During a markup this week, the committee:
-
Passed 28-21 the Consumer Financial Protection Accountability and Reform Act (H.R. 10184), which would broadly reform the CFPB by changing its funding, rulemaking, enforcement, and supervisory authorities.
-
Passed by voice vote the TRAPS Act (H.R. 4936), which would create a cross-sector task force led by the Treasury Department to coordinate the government and private-sector response to payment scams.
-
Failed to pass, by a 21-28 vote, H.R. 10325, which would increase the mandatory contribution amount from the Federal Home Loan Banks to the Affordable Housing Program.
ICBA View: ICBA has historically opposed congressional efforts to increase Federal Home Loan Bank AHP contributions.
