IRS extends flexibilities on e-signatures, encrypted email


The Internal Revenue Service extended certain temporary flexibilities enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic, including its acceptance of digital signatures.

The Internal Revenue Service extended certain temporary flexibilities enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic, including its acceptance of digital signatures.

Details: The IRS said it will continue to accept digital signatures indefinitely until more robust technical solutions are deployed. The agency also will continue to permit encrypted email when working directly with IRS personnel until Oct. 31, 2025.

Impact: The IRS said the flexibilities were well received by tax professionals and taxpayers, who said the changes saved time and resources.
