Government measures target North Korean cybercrime


The Justice Department indicted three North Korean computer programmers for participating in a series of cyberattacks designed to steal and extort more than $1.3 billion from financial institutions.

The Justice Department indicted three North Korean computer programmers for participating in a series of cyberattacks designed to steal and extort more than $1.3 billion from financial institutions. The indictments expand on 2018 FBI charges related to the WannaCry ransomware attack on Sony Pictures.

Additionally, federal agencies issued a joint cybersecurity advisory about North Korean government malicious activity the U.S. government refers to as “AppleJeus.” The advisory highlights technical details on this specific threat activity as well as mitigations for networks compromised by it or defending against it.
