FBI releases cyber strategy

September 14, 2026 / By ICBA

The FBI published a strategy document that defines its priorities, objectives, and framework for fighting cyber fraud.

Details: The agency said the strategy is based on four pillars:

  • Investigate, disrupt, and impose cost on cyber adversaries.

  • Support victims.

  • Increase impact through partnerships.

  • Enhance the FBI’s cyber capabilities.

Administration Focus: The FBI announcement follows recent cybersecurity efforts from other agencies:

  • The Treasury Department last week announced it had seized infrastructure and digital asset wallets used by a Chinese platform that operates a large illicit online marketplace used to support cyber scams and fraud targeting Americans.

  • FinCEN recently issued an alert urging financial institutions to be vigilant to digital asset investment scams perpetrated by overseas scam centers.

  • FinCEN separately published an analysis showing nearly $13 billion tied to suspected digital asset scams in recent years.
