House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) announced he will retire from Congress at the end of his current term.
Committee Service: McHenry has served on the Financial Services Committee since he was elected to Congress in 2005. McHenry served as ranking Republican beginning in 2019 and took over as chairman at the start of the 118th Congress this year, so he would be term-limited as top Republican on the committee after next year.
What’s Next: McHenry’s retirement will lead to a race to replace him as committee chairman that could include subcommittee chairmen, including Reps. Blaine Luetkemeyer (Mo.), French Hill (Ark.), and Bill Huizenga (Mich.).
