The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) of 1975 requires banks to report loan data regarding home purchases, home improvements, and refinancing. The HMDA helps the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) determine if discriminatory lending practices are taking place, if banks are meeting the housing needs of the public and where to disburse public sector investments.
