April is Community Banking Month
Washington, D.C. (April 1, 2004) - Today marks the start of Community Banking Month, a nationwide celebration recognizing the many contributions community banks make to their customers and communities.
The Independent Community Bankers of America, working with its affiliated community banking state associations across the country, serves as the national coordinator of Community Banking Month. Thousands of community banks participate in the national industry celebration every year by doing volunteer work with civic projects, organizing customer-appreciation events or teaching local students various financial skills.
Community banks offer superior customer service, flexible financial product and service options, and are committed to enhancing the quality of life in their local marketplaces. Whether sponsoring a youth soccer league, expanding access to homeownership, supporting a youth shelter, restoring a local park, or helping an entrepreneur fulfill a lifelong dream, community banks make a positive difference every day. Community Banking Month allows community banks to celebrate these achievements.
To participate in the month-long event, community banks often donate to local charities, teach students about financial issues, decorate their branches, serve their customers refreshments, or give free car washes at the drive thru. However a community bank chooses to celebrate Community Banking Month, its customers and the community are the center of attention.

"They are an integral part of the fabric of thousands of towns and cities across America. Community banks work hard to improve the quality of life in their communities.
