Community Bank Cardholder Wins Big

Washington, D.C. (March 16, 2005)—ICBA Bancard, the electronic payments services corporation of the Independent Community Bankers of America, announced that a community bank customer has won $10,000 in a national Visa Bill Payment Sweepstakes.

ICBA Bancard President and CEO Linda F. Echard said that the sweepstakes outcome belies the misconception that community banks are small players in the EFT industry. "ICBA Bancard debit card issuers in aggregate are the 18th largest debit card issuer in the United States. With over a million debit cards in the marketplace it comes as no surprise that one of our community bank customers won Visa’s $10,000 Grand Prize," said Echard.

Sherri Dunham, cardholder and longtime customer of South Georgia Bank in Glenville, Ga. was automatically entered into Visa’s Bill Payment Sweepstakes when she used her Visa Check Card to pay her monthly digital satellite service bill. Her check for $10,000 arrived in the mail on February 28. Dunham says that she and her husband plan to use the money to build an addition on to their home. "We were already planning to add on, and this well help pay for it."

South Georgia Bank CEO and Chairman of the Board, Jimmy D. Dubberly, says he was delighted when he learned that one of his bank’s customers was a Grand Prize winner in Visa’s Bill Payment Sweepstakes. "We are very happy for Sherri and thank her for her business," he says. "It is gratifying to know that the customers of small town community banks, like our own, actually win these prizes."

The 2004 sweepstakes ran from May 1 through August 31 and was developed to promote the ease and convenience of paying for recurring monthly bills with a Visa card. Five Grand Prize winners were randomly selected from eligible entries. No purchase or obligation was necessary to enter or win.
