ICBA Independent Banker Magazine Receives Creative Awards

Washington, D.C. (December 13, 2006)—The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) announced that its flagship magazine, ICBA Independent Banker, won two outstanding achievement awards in the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals' 2006 MarCom Creative Awards.

"This is well-deserved recognition for ICBA and community banking's premier magazine, Independent Banker," said Karen Tyson, ICBA senior vice president and director of communications. "ICBA is fortunate to have a talented and creative magazine staff that works hard to deliver an outstanding publication each month for community bankers. We congratulate them on these honors."

ICBA Independent Banker was recognized with a Platinum Award in the Design/Magazine Cover category for its July 2006 cover design featuring a "yellow smiley face" placed on a wrecking ball smashing into a bank to highlight the feature story "Fending Off Wal-Mart." ICBA has been the leading banking association speaking out to maintain the separation of banking and commerce by keeping Wal-Mart and other large commercial enterprises from entering banking.

The magazine also received a Gold Award for its June 2006 issue in the best overall trade association magazine category, which is judged for design and content.
