ICBA Congratulates Bank of Missouri for Winning ‘Main Street Holiday Contest’
Washington, D.C. (Dec. 20, 2013)—The Independent Community Bankers of America® (ICBA) announced today that the Bank of Missouri of Perryville, Mo., won the association’s first Go Local for the Holidays’ photo contest. The contest, which is part of its Go Local for the Holidays campaign—an initiative that encourages consumers to shop at local small businesses this holiday season—featured more than 60 entries of holiday-decorated Main Street photos from community banks across the country.
“Community banks take pride in their communities year round by lending to small businesses, supporting local charities and serving in organizations that make their communities’ futures bright,” said Bill Loving, ICBA chairman and president and CEO of Pendleton Community Bank, Franklin, W.Va. “ICBA and community bankers around the country congratulate Bank of Missouri customers and staff on winning this contest. Bank of Missouri showed that even during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, Main Street pride is alive and well every day of the year.”
Community banks are huge advocates and supporters of local small businesses. In fact, even though community banks comprise only 20 percent of banking industry assets, community banks with less than $10 billion in assets provide nearly 60 percent of outstanding bank small business loans. Because community banks are small businesses themselves, they are able to partner with their small business customers to help them understand local market dynamics and the opportunities and challenges that small businesses in their area face.
Consumers, bank employees and other Facebook users voted for their favorite Main Street photo on ICBA’s Facebook page through 9 a.m. (Eastern time) Friday, Dec. 20. Bank of Missouri’s photo had the most “likes”—a staggering 1,501—and won a $300 gift card for a local charity in its area. The photo, which was taken by bank associate Chad Johnson, is of Cape Girardeau, Mo., decorated for the holiday season, and it has the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in its background.
The other finalists were from Paducah Bank, 1st Bank of Sea Isle City, City Bank and Trust Co. and First Federal of Northern Michigan. These photos, along with Bank of Missouri’s winning photo, can be viewed at www.facebook.com/icbaorg.
