How states can challenge credit union-bank acquisitions

A new ICBA analysis provides insights on how to use state laws and regulations to challenge credit union acquisitions of community banks.

The analysis follows the recent blocking of a credit union-community bank acquisition by the Colorado State Banking Board, which found that the transaction would have violated Colorado law prohibiting banks from selling to nonbanks.

Through its Credit Union Task Force and "Wake Up" campaign, ICBA has raised the profile of the disturbing trend of credit unions buying smaller community banks.
