Senate Ag Leader: Consider Expected Dairy Payments as Collateral

Feb 11, 2019
Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) urged regulators to clarify that lenders may account for dairy program improvements under the new farm bill as they extend credit to dairy farmers around the country.

She also urged lenders to consider expected payments under the new program when making loans to dairy farmers, even though the government shutdown has delayed operation of that program.

Program benefits will be retroactive to Jan. 1, according to the USDA.
