Financial services congressional committee hearings kick off this week on several topics, including banking cannabis-related businesses.
ICBA community banker Greg Deckard of State Bank Northwest in Spokane Valley, Wash., is slated to testify at Wednesday’s House subcommittee hearing. ICBA supports a safe harbor from federal sanctions for financial institutions that serve cannabis-related businesses in states where cannabis is legal.
The House Financial Services Committee
also has hearings this week on U.S. sanctions, homelessness, and affordable housing in rural America. The Senate Banking Committee
is set to meet Thursday for a hearing on Mark Calabria’s nomination for director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
Also this week, Federal Reserve Board Governor Miki Bowman speaks today on community banking and Fed Chairman Jerome Powell speaks tomorrow on economic development in rural areas.
