Grand National Award Recipient

Golden Valley Bank, Chico, Calif. Service Program: Golden Valley Bank Community Foundation

ICBA recognizes Golden Valley Bank for its immediate and impactful response to the most destructive wildfire in California history. Golden Valley Bank Community Foundation’s fire-relief effort raised more than $13 million and distributed $4 million to Chico/Paradise-area wildfire survivors, nonprofits and other agencies for direct relief and dozens of local projects. In the midst of the raging fires, the bank extended its hours of operation to answer calls and help the 30,000 people evacuating Paradise to get funds.

The day after the fire began, the bank went one step further. It donated $50,000 to the Golden Valley Bank Community Foundation to lead the community’s recovery efforts and secured additional funding from 40 local partners support relief efforts. The bank waived no administration fees, allowing 100 percent of donations to go straight to fire relief. Before long, they had 40 partners on board.

Bank employees dedicated hundreds—possibly thousands—of hours to fundraising, accounting and awarding grants since the fire.
