Visiting Community Bankers Build for Habitat for Humanity Phoenix
Build Occurs in Connection with ICBA Annual Convention and Techworld
Phoenix, Ariz. (March 17, 2009)—Community bankers from across the country converted their home-lending know-how into hands on homebuilding to construct two new single-family homes for families in Phoenix. The build is held annually, in connection with the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) National Convention and Techworld, which is being held in Phoenix this year from March 18 - 21. ICBA also announced that it is donating $12,000 to the efforts of Habitat for Humanity Phoenix.
“ICBA is very pleased that community bankers are contributing their time and energy toward this Habitat for Humanity build, which will benefit two very special Phoenix-area families,” said Cynthia L. Blankenship, ICBA chairman and vice chairman and chief operating officer of Bank of the West, Grapevine, Texas. “Today we’re seeing just one example of the dedication that community bankers provide to their communities every day.”
The homebuilding is in its early stages with community bankers putting up the walls and adding roof trusses. Scheduled for completion in 2009, the two single-family homes are located in Habitat for Humanity’s Oro Vista Habitat Subdivision in Phoenix.
“Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona is so happy that ICBA has chosen to assist us with our build efforts in our Oro Vista subdivision located in south Phoenix,” said Roger Schwierjohn, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona. “It‘s inspiring to see the ICBA so willing to partner with Habitat in spite of the difficult economic times. We are proud to partner with a group that wants to be part of the solution. We are forever grateful to the ICBA for all they do for us and for our community.”
