Rep. Oxley Receives ICBA’s Main Street Hero® Award

Washington, D.C. (May 24, 2006)—The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) named Rep. Michael Oxley (R-Ohio) to receive ICBA’s Main Street Hero® Award for his leadership in supporting community banking and the millions of consumers and small businesses which they serve.

“Rep. Oxley’s 24-year career of principled leadership and public service in Washington for the nation, community banks and Main Street America speaks for itself,” said Terry J. Jorde, ICBA chairman and president and CEO of CountryBank USA, Cando, N.D., in presenting the award to Rep. Oxley during ICBA’s Joint Committee Meetings held this week in the nation’s capital. “Through his work in Congress, Rep. Oxley has given community banks the tools we need to further investment and savings in the communities we serve.”

Oxley is currently chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and has announced he will retire from the House of Representatives at the end of this Congress. Over the years, Chairman Oxley has been instrumental in steering an impressive list of landmark financial services legislation through the House of Representatives.   Check 21, regulatory relief and federal deposit insurance reform are among the most recent, all of which will leave a lasting legacy on the financial services industry and America’s communities.

ICBA’s Main Street Hero® award honors public officials who promote the vitality of local communities by supporting the work of community banks and the important role they play on Main Street.
