United Banker’s Bank Delivers a Commitment to ICBA’s iHELP® Student Loan Program
Referral program helps community bank access $150 billion private student loan market
Washington, D.C. (Jan. 31, 2013)—United Bankers’ Bank (UBB) is the latest member bank of the Independent Community Bankers of America® (ICBA) to commit loan capital to the iHELP® private student loan program. Headquartered in Bloomington, Minn., UBB has community bank customers in 13 states and will be a sponsor of the iHELP referral program. The referral program enables community banks to offer student loan services to their customers.
“Through the iHELP Private Student Loan program, community banks can have a real impact on the financial future of their customers and local economies. We’re thrilled that United Bankers’ Bank is helping its members access the iHELP Private Student Loan program, which enables community banks to tap into the $150 billion market for private student loans,” said Dan Clancy, executive vice present of services at ICBA. “UBB’s unique Referral Partner Program will enable community banks to refer customers to iHELP, when previously they would have gone to a competitor for their private student loan needs.”
Kevin Bostrom, UBB’s senior vice president and chief credit officer, said, “Tapping into the private student loan market will unlock opportunities for community banks to cultivate important relationships with young customers and their families. In addition to helping young adults achieve their education goals, community banks participating in the iHELP program can expand and diversify their consumer loan portfolios.”
Kevin Moehn, iHELP’s private student loan program manager, stated, “We share ICBA’s and UBB’s commitment to providing outstanding customer service and working with students to make sure they understand their loan. In addition, iHELP provides free resources on U.S. college costs, average salary by career and location, and scholarship links so students can make an informed decision and reduce their net cost of college.”
