Visiting Community Bankers Build for Habitat for Humanity Orlando
Build Occurs in Connection with ICBA Annual Convention and Techworld
Orlando, Fla. (March 1, 2008)—Community bankers from across the country converted their home lending know-how into hands on homebuilding to construct a new home for a single mom and her family in Orlando, Fla. The build is held in connection with the Independent Community Bankers of America National Convention and Techworld, March 2-5. ICBA also announced that it is donating $12,000 to the efforts of Habitat for Humanity Orlando.
"ICBA is very pleased that community bankers are contributing their time and energy toward one of the greatest works of community service community bankers can perform," said James P. Ghiglieri, Jr., ICBA chairman and president of Alpha Financial Group, Inc., Toluca, Ill. "Today we're seeing one example of what community bankers do every day and what happens when community bankers come together to work on behalf of the people and small businesses in their communities."
The homebuilding is in its early stages with community bankers putting up the walls and adding roof trusses. Scheduled for completion in June, the house is located in a neighborhood with lots of families with children.
"We greatly appreciate when volunteers take time to work with us," said Dee Danmeyer executive director of Habitat for Humanity Orlando. "For this particular project, we're building safe, decent and affordable housing for a single mom, her two daughters and her grandson."
