ICBA Joins Readiness Coalition
Americans Encouraged to Prepare for Potential Disaster
Washington, D.C. (August 30, 2006)—The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) announced it has joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's 2006 National Preparedness Coalition.
"Raising awareness and providing education so that Americans are prepared for a potential disaster will serve families and businesses well if disaster hits," said Camden R. Fine, ICBA president and CEO. "ICBA's participation reflects community bankers' connection to the communities they serve everyday. Joining this coalition is a natural extension of being part of the community."
One of the major undertakings of the coalition will be to sponsor National Preparedness Month this September. The goal of the month-long project is to encourage Americans to take steps to be better prepared for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. For its part, ICBA will also focus on financial preparedness, and in particular, what steps individuals, families and small businesses can take to be sure they have thought ahead to safeguard financial records and financial assets.
"Knowing your account numbers, having some cash on hand, and what records need to be safeguarded are all small steps that can be taken now that could take the edge off in a big way down the road if a disaster should occur," Fine said.
