Healthcare legislation will impact every financial institution in the United States. NACHA is working in partnership with the healthcare industry to help improve the efficiency and processing of healthcare payments and remittance information. U.S. healthcare expenditures accounted for 17.6 percent of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product in 2009. Today, 20 cents to 40 cents of each healthcare dollar is spent on administrative costs. Healthcare legislation and administrative simplification can help to reduce that amount significantly – but it will take cross-industry cooperation, collaboration and innovation.
