A federal judge recently approved a $27.25 million settlement that resolves a lawsuit brought by thousands of financial institutions over Home Depot’s 2014 data breach.
The ruling from U.S. District Judge Thomas Thrash authorizes Home Depot to establish a $25 million fund to be distributed through a claims process. An additional $2.25 million will be available to for financial institutions involuntarily included in a separate settlement with Mastercard. Home Depot also agreed to strengthen its data-security practices.
Home Depot is expected to begin paying claims in the next 90 days.
