Audio Conf: Fresh Look At "Updated" FFIEC Guidance (WAV)

Recorded: April 26, 2012

Length: 60 Minutes

Six years after the FFIEC released FIL-305-2005: Authentication in an Internet Banking Environment, the FFIEC has come out with: Supplemental Guidance on Internet Banking Authentication. The original FIL released in October of 2005 was intended to provide guidance related to stronger authentication for financial activities in an Internet banking environment. Hackers and fraudsters reacted with a collective yawn, and almost no impact on their malicious activities. The supplement released in June is intended to provide an update on current risks and guidelines for authenticating members.

We will review the evolution of the hacking and fraud environment that drove the need for the original authentication guidance, as well as the recently released update.

In this 60 minute audio conference we will address:

  • The evolution of threats to interactions with members that are not in person (internet banking, phone interactions, and email usage)
  • Changes to the FFIEC Guidance on Internet Banking Authentication

Session outcomes - at the end of this session participants will:

  • Be able to define strategies for stronger, more reasonable customer authentication
  • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of different authentication procedures
  • Be better equipped to manage the risks related to customer interaction which is not in person
